A More Sure Prophetic Word

A More Sure Prophetic Word

And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 2 Peter 1:19 ESV

I was a false prophet. It’s true. The realization of that is grieving and freeing at the same time because the truth of His Word and the mercy and grace of God have set me free. I wrote things and said things for which I thought were directly from God Himself. I was told that I was a Prophet, and I believed it. There were things I said that came to pass, and there were things that did not come to pass, but it was not simply in the inaccuracy that made me a false prophet. It was also in the Biblical understanding that though I was sprinkling the name of Jesus Christ throughout my writings and such, I was pointing people more to self than to Christ and to His full gospel. People were being led astray and drawn away from Him whether they realized it or not. They were not being told that my dreams or my words were not their authority for truth, but rather the written Word of God, the God breathed Scripture that is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16) should be the foundation for guidance and instruction in the life of a Christian.

It has been a journey since last year, one that has been a crucifying of the flesh and of deep repentance, of personal judgment and much needed brokenness before the Lord. My writing changed in the process because I hungered and thirsted for righteousness, and God satisfied me with His Word, the Bible. I want to glorify Him in word and deed. The journey ever continues in progressive sanctification, trusting in Christ Jesus all along the way and being clothed in His righteousness while being ever mindful that I am fallible and always in need of Him. I was reminded at the beginning of this week that this journey of righting the course so to speak is continuous, which is the reason for this particular blog post.

On Sunday, I received a kind email, thanking me for a prophetic word re-shared by Charisma News, which had been written several years ago. I checked their social media page to find that they had re-shared four old words of mine within a day’s time. My instant reaction was not what it once would have been. I was grieved. These blog posts had been removed months ago from my blog, but where they had permission to share them previously, they had recycled them from their original use. My grief came at knowing that others would see those words and continue to be led astray from the true Word of God and into Gnosticism and mysticism. That evening, I made the decision to make a public statement on social media, to email the editor of Charisma and request that they no longer share any of my posts, and to email the individual that had contacted me and repent. I never knew how much freedom would come in doing those things. It was as if the last remaining bit of the fear of man and what I had come out of died. The only thing that mattered was the truth and testifying of Jesus Christ.

While thinking about this situation, 2 Peter 1:19 came to my remembrance. The apostle Peter is recalling the account of witnessing the transfiguration of Jesus Christ and what took place prior to this verse. He assured the recipients of his letter that what he said was not based upon fabricated or cleverly devised myths, but he makes it plain that he was an eyewitness to these things. He goes on in this very verse to speak of a more sure prophetic word. It is a light shining in a dark place. This more sure prophetic word does not come from man’s interpretation nor does it come from the will of man. He goes on to say that men spoke from as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20,21)

This Word of which Peter speaks is Scripture. It is not the vain imaginations of fallible men and women. It is not modern day prophecy, especially that which is more along the lines of fortune telling about current events. Rather it is the God breathed Word that testifies of Jesus Christ. In Peter’s time, he was speaking of what we know to be the Old Testament. They did not have the New Testament as we do today. They preached and proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ from the Old Testament. I do not know about you, but that challenges me and causes me to ask myself if I could present the gospel to someone from the Old Testament alone.

The entire Bible is a more sure word. Peter seemed to imply that this Word is more sure than even his experience on that mountaintop with Christ. That is a sobering thing to ponder. Experiences can be a powerful thing, but as believers in Christ, experiences will not supersede the more sure prophetic Word, and that Word is the Bible. For those who have been affected in any way by my previous words, I repent. I was sincere in those times, but I was sincerely wrong. I was a false prophet, but thanks be to God for His mercy and grace, I now know the truth. That is my prayer for those who will read this blog. May God get the glory.

  1. Thank you and bless you for your courage and transparency. I’ve been in this place too, and yes, the freedom received through Jesus, is a peace that surpasses all understanding. I am so so very thankful for His mercy and grace, even when it is not deserved in my own life. Bless you!! Maranatha!!

  2. This is amazing. I just had a dream this morning and as I pondered on my dream using the Bible, 2 Peter 1:19 and Psalm 13 came alive. I also repented and asked for cleansing and purging. And your email is the first I have opened after my prayer, only to be blessed by it, seeing 2 Peter 1:19, the same scripture I just dwelt on. God is indeed good

  3. Dawn I have followed your words for sometime. I have been blessed to read them. The Lord is speaking through so many in the last season and this new era. He has been speaking to me about His word is and has the answers for everything we will come across in our lifetimes. We will live a full life with all of the blessings in His word if we follow all of the precepts. Or without Him we will experience a cursed life. Reading your blog confirms our focus must be first and foremost on Him and His word. The prophetic words from others should only be the frosting on the cake . Thank you so much for sharing. I am 65y/ o and still amazed with this walk we call life.

  4. It takes a lot of guts to do something like this. Not many Christians would be willing to do it. May the Lord be honoured by it and may He honour you. It is a great step that will bear fruit for you. So inspiring.

  5. Dawn THANK YOU for your transparency, sharing your eye opening revelation of your church and your current journey! I am now struggling with allowing God help me in ridding myself of the spirit of religion which I HATE! I am TRULY overcoming being a Romans 7:14-25 person….spiritual cleansing is so needed right now….but God! Blessings sis!!!

  6. Hi Lovesick Scribe

I have always been dubious on prophetic words.

They can crush, they are scriptural and there is many warnings about them.

I have to have things come in three.

A word not confirmed can be dangerous.

I had a word said over me a year ago that so totally offended me that it took me out of fellowship, stunted my prayer life and took me along way back.

I was able to overcome, repent, forgive and return to fellowship stronger. I had to learn a lesson in that. Offence is one of the greatest weapons of the enemy.

Not flesh but principalities and powers.

Over the years I have subscribed to many Christian blogs and organisations. I did a clean out not long ago and left only two.

    Your Blog and Passion translation.

I look to you at times as a confirmation in my spirit with things I receive and am very comfortable with your writings.

Be blessed as you move forward and true the word is the true guide, we only see in part.

    Big Love!

  7. I now believe searching the bible for truth and what scripture says about our sins is the way we get free from the burden of sin. Studying with you Dawn has revealed things that i didn’t think the bible was able to help me with. Thank you for in depth clarity when we gather online for Emmaus bible discipleship study.

  8. Hello, dawn
I am a prophetic person in training, so I don’t pretend to come at you with anything but compassion. I read your post and wanted to encourage you because inside our prophetic lessons in our group, we just learned from respected leaders in the prophetic, the differences between a true false prophet and a prophet who may either make a mistake or for some reason ‘miss it’. No, these precious ones are not considered false prophets but ones who are learning or who may need more time in instruction and working out what they already know. When you mentioned that you were ‘false’, my heart went out to you. We learned that a true false prophet would be one who is not called to be a prophet at all, but uses manipulation, abuse, and control, and greed to get what they want. Their ministries, while possibly giving prophetic words with accuracy, dont have the fruit that a true prophetic ministry would have. It takes great humility and yes, transparency to do what you did. Its hard and can be crushing. In the end, you will be trusted and respected more because of your devotion to God and your care for the flock. I have followed you for a while and appreciate your abandon for the Father! You are still inspiring and a beautiful reminder that God uses it all to make us stronger and more usable in His kingdom when we are humble enough to listen and obey. You are beautiful, and this difficulty will only serve to make you a sharper, more effective weapon in His arsenal. God bless you!

    1. Sharla, I saw your comment and wanted to respond because of some things God has set me free from through His Word. The way we know a true or false prophet is through God’s Word. I would encourage you to read Deut. 13 which is one passage that covers this. There’s also a book on this topic which helps us expound on the Scriptures to discern between true versus false prophets that really helped me if you want to study this from God’s Word more deeply: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CDKH1VK

I pray this blesses you in your journey!

  9. Hi Dawn…1st time I caught you was yesterday via Melissa Dougherty. I am 75 years old and have seen a lot of life. I’ve known Jesus since I was 16. And I’ve been up and down. Life tends to throw you curve balls at times. I have tossed away most of what I thought was important. I’ve come to find that feelings are not that important and many have been sucked into cults because it “feels” right. But never check on their own what the Bible says. These days there are so many who are saying false things it’s mind baffling. Always be thankful He showed you the truth…but more so that you responded to it! Many hear the truth but can’t throw off the lies because they are so embedded in them. May I ask you to leave your sorrow behind and move on. You have much to give and much to rejoice about! John said Jesus is the Word and if we stay close to Him He will pick us if we fall. Isn’t that wonderful? Always remember: The New Testament did not create the resurrection, the resurrection created the New Testament! His love is great for us and His message is simple: to love God with all your heart and soul and to love your neighbor as yourself. Stay on this path and when you fall our sweet Savior will always, always be their to pick you up. You have a wonderful spirit and a breath of fresh air for this dying world!
    God Bless

    1. Thank you, John. Your words are encouraging, and I love what you said about the resurrection creating the New Testament. What a beautiful way to put it. It is wonderful to have such a merciful Savior and Advocate with the Father. The Lord Jesus has been so faithful to forgive me and to humble me in this and to open my eyes. Thank you for taking the time to write to me, and I am familiar with Melissa Dougherty. I have watched several of her videos since last year after coming out of the hyper charismatic/NAR. Blessings to you, John

  10. Hi Dawn,
I saw your facebookpost and am touched. Thank you so much for your candid story and thank God for taking you out of the darkness! It seems to me that – while the dark is getting darker rapidly – God is calling people out..
Stay close to Him and His Word.
    Love from the Netherlands

  11. Loved this. Loved hearing you repent out loud in public with the lights on… Loved the revelation that leads me right back to the secret place under His wing – the only safe place in the universe (and beyond…)! You brought me so much joy with this!

  12. Amen! Directed here by your Facebook post…
I was also decieve doing unbiblical things and no one could have convinced me of anything different until I was finally brought to nothing in the light of the gospel. Praise the Lord by his Mercy 🙌 Godly sorrow (at the cross! ) truly does lead to life… (sigh) It’s so humbling to finally see ourselves as we really are. Just pitiful Sinners in need of a perfect savior, no one special or more “spiritual.” The gospel is what we need, finally we can rest in what he did for us. May God Bless you 🙏 and use all things for good!

  13. Hello! I just listened to your testimony with Doreen Virtue. So much of what you explained is what I went thru as well the past 1 1/2 years. So much similarities. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
