A Broken Way

A Broken Way

Have you ever had thoughts that you knew if said out loud could breed contention? It is probably safe to say that there is quite a bit you and I keep to ourselves. Maybe we do it out of intimidation or fear, or maybe we do it to spare someone’s feelings. Maybe we refrain from asking tough questions because of the aftershock it could bring. But there comes a time when the tough things need to be said, and tough questions need to be asked, and I lovingly push back on the rhetoric that asking the tough questions and pointing to Jesus Christ is intolerant, legalistic, and void of the Spirit. Now, before you read what I am about to say, please know that this is said with genuine concern and kindness. I am fully aware that I do not have all the answers nor do I carry the clout others do. I am a fallible human being, but as a disciple of Jesus Christ, I am greatly troubled by the current situation because a broken way is being offered to many by many in the Charismatic church. This way is rooted in man’s understanding and even in personal desires and will being fulfilled while sprinkling the name of God amidst the declarations.

It is troubling, and it goes beyond the current situation with our election here in America and the social fabric for us as Americans. Ultimately, my personal hope and faith is in Christ alone and in no man or government. I will utter these words which seem to upset many right now; God is sovereign. My concern goes to a Biblical perspective and a lack of it being exhibited from professing Christians. My social media feed has been inundated with political news and outrage, which is to be expected, and with that has come a barrage of prophetic words and an almost seeming scramble to resolve words that appear to be falling to the ground. This will garner push back and even warnings of coming against the prophets, and if the outcome sides with the words of the professing prophets, then victory will be claimed because of perceived accuracy. But what happens if the outcome is not what was declared? What do we do with the inaccuracies already evident and recorded for the world to replay at the touch of a button?

You see, there are serious issues here. With the scrambling of trying to regroup in the midst of this election mess and prophetic mess, some things are becoming clear, and they are grieving. The concern for accuracy has put the spotlight on men and women rather than on the gospel of Jesus Christ. You and I certainly do not know the hearts of people, and yet when people are hanging on the words of men and women foretelling of events rather than on the Word of God for instruction and guidance, we have lost the way. It brings to mind Paul and his warning to the elders in Ephesus before he left, “I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.” (Acts 20:29,30) So, here is a question: is there more concern for people to know Jesus Christ and to come to saving faith in Him, or is the concern for personal reputation and the pride of being right? May I say that if someone is continuously pointing you in the direction of their private revelations as the answer rather than the gospel of Jesus Christ and to the Word of God, they are drawing you unto themselves. This is a broken way.

When our hope rests in men and women, our hope is hopeless. As Christians, we have a hope which the world cannot extinguish nor understand, and if we are hopeless because of the failing words of man said to be from God, which we know that God is not a man that He should lie, then we must ask where our hope truly lies. I am concerned that we in the American church are ill prepared for persecution. I am also concerned that many professing Christians do not know the full gospel of Jesus Christ and that the gospel is being proclaimed less and exchanged for reliance on dreams, visions and extrabiblical revelation. This is a great time to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the question begging to be asked is why is it not?

People need to hear about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is the crux of the gospel. They need to know that He came to be the propitiation for sin and that apart from Him, the wrath of God abides on those who do not know Him as their Lord and Savior. Those who do not know Him stand condemned already, and they need Christ so that they can be redeemed and adopted as children of God and coheirs with Christ. The gospel is for us as believers to remember from what we have been saved, and that is the wrath of God. We need to meditate on the Word of God daily and to be comforted by His Word and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit so that we are led into all truth. It is a great time to speak forth the gospel. Telling the truth garners enemies and disdain, but I would rather lead you to the narrow way than to a broken way. Put your trust in Christ alone. America does not need another dream or vision. America needs the true gospel of Jesus Christ, and we need to return to the Way.

  1. This is a clarion call, Dawn, and much needed in this hour! I am Canadian watching your election with great interest, but my feeling the other night when I was listening to the usual voices reassuring that the prophets words would indeed come to pass was, God is sifting his ENTIRE church, including the prophets and those who follow them! We can humble themselves under the correction or we will be exposed. He will, in his mercy and love, come to correct our course. God, help us to heed the warning! This is the time for Bible truth and no mixture.

  2. Such a great post! I’ve been praying so much for those led astray by the prophetic movement and lying leaders that they will be brought to the truth and to the true Gospel of Christ, especially in these days surrounding the election and the results of it.

It breaks my heart to think many just rationalize away their prophecies whenever proven wrong. And the focus on these things is such a distraction from Christ, who is jealous for our full devotion.

It makes me think of what Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 11:2-4 —

“For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.”

    1. You are so right, Amanda! God will not share his glory with another. He will correct his church to be a faithful witness to the gospel.

  3. The “blind “ followers are patronizing the false prophets with soothing words and unrealistic expectations of a Trump victory, either this election or 2024 etc.
Time for a healing in our nation and
Fervently prayers and praise for the Supreme Court victory. Heal our land and strengthen our relationships with Abba father and our fellow Sinners.

  4. You all are so afraid of the prophetic and so quick to condemn that you would accept the lefts agenda for America? I hope you all enjoy living under socialist rule and find it better than Trump. Talk about blind and so quick to judge that none of the prophets heard from God … I’m taking you totally off my list of people I will listen to

    1. Hi, Yvonne. Thank you for your comment. I shared it rather than to delete it because I do not support the socialist view nor did I vote for it. As believers, we are instructed in the Word to test everything and to righteously judge. We are also to conduct ourselves in such a way that we glorify Christ. We are to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. I personally have no issue with prophecy. The Bible is full of prophecy. The Scriptures are a more sure Word. I bless you. I do not curse. Have a blessed day!

  5. This definitely is a time when we are having the opportunity to look at our values and behaviors in light of the Word of God. I particularly liked what you said about
“am also concerned that many professing Christians do not know the full gospel of Jesus Christ and that the gospel is being proclaimed less and exchanged for reliance on dreams, visions and extrabiblical revelation.” This hour we are in we are going to see more and more prophetic declarations and statements and to be able to discern from those that point to Jesus, lead us to faith and trust in HIm and not in the “message of the prophet”….is a great challenge both for the listener and for the heart of the prophet to examine his own heart and understanding. It is a time of purification in all ways especially for the Body of Christ…which has not been without spot or wrinkled…but has been the source of some of the worst conditions which we have seen manifest in society at large. Judgement has begun at the church…in the church FOR the cleansing of the body of Christ, its maturing into the Sons that are well equipped to survive the persecution that the last days are going to be bringing.

Thank you for being willing to speak up and speak forth!
    Meri Ford

  6. Excellent post and replies! I am so thankful and blessed to have been lead to your writings, Dawn. May God bless you all, in His knowledge and truth as we wait for Him.
    Maranatha!!

    1. Amen from Australia! God bless you Dawn for your focus on Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and His Word.

  7. I’ve only recently come across your blog. Your post is very heartfelt and needed at this particular time. These last several months in our Country’s history seem like a constant brass cymbal being crashed along with blinding strobe lights, anything to distract us from God and our relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I don’t like the way the election has played out so far. And I do say so far because I truly pray that if fraud was involved then it would be brought to light no matter who did what or what was done. The thing that really bothers me in the pit of my stomach the collective “tried and true “ prophetic voice demanding with authority what we need to DO and not to DO. We’re to fast and pray and travail before the Lord. We’re to watch our words. We’re not to accept things as there currently are, not until they change to “God’s” will. There seems to be so many people screaming for us to listen to God and “give Him something to work with”, that we can’t hear Him. I’m by no means giving up or selling out to what is playing out in our Country. On the contrary, I have to cling even tighter to my Jesus, my rock. I have prayed and asked the Father to take this cup from us but nevertheless His will and not ours be done. I’m not trying to be super spiritual and I’m far from eloquent. This morning I woke up the the collective voice telling us to get ready for a “Prophets of Baal” (1Kings 18) moment. Wouldn’t this be a show! I know I’d love to see it and who knows maybe, just maybe… The only thing I positively know is, God is Sovereign. I’m getting tired of the prophets using the Shepherd’s staff to beat the sheep back into the fold. My trust is in God, my trust is in Jesus.

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”
    ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭3:16-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    1. Perhaps I was a bit harsh with my analogy of the prophets beating the sheep with the Shepherd’s staff. That’s only used when the dangling of the carrot from the end of the Shepherd’s staff doesn’t work.

      1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts here, and thank you Dawn for your post! I’ve been on somewhat of a journey lately, trying to stay close to truth but not wanting to “throw the baby out with the bath water.” I believe in the gifts of the spirit, in the prophetic, words of knowledge, etc. but have gotten so tired of the abuse and mis-use. Just finished NonProphet woke, and it was so refreshing. I feel like I’m somewhere in the center on so many issues though…I’m too conservative for liberals and too liberal for conservatives, I’m too charismatic for the legalistic and too legalistic for the charismatic. I don’t feel like it’s because I can’t make up my mind, and I don’t want to be accused of being “lukewarm”, I just want to stick close to the heart of Jesus. I feel simple minded and think the gospel should be simple and get so tired of the over complication coming from so many “sides.” I’ve decided that if a teaching doesn’t stand in every context, in every nation, then it’s extra-biblical and not sound doctrine.

  8. I’ve been reading your Facebook posts and this blog lately and its comforting and encouraging to hear someone say and write about the same things I’ve been saying and writing about. There’s so much in my heart and a stirring in my spirit over this particular subject, the prophetic. It started last year when I had to uproot my family from my home church because of a major push to teach people to prophesy. I believe fully in the gift of prophecy because it is Biblical but it almost became like a superpower that relied way too man’s abilities and efforts, rather than a gift given from the will of the Holy Spirit. He chooses who receives the gifts He gives not us. We’ve become too relaxed about saying what we believe God is saying to us. The church I left taught that it was okay if you get it wrong, just say it anyway. They gave us timed, exercises to practice prophecy on our fellow church goers. We were encouraged to just say it or write something before our time was up.
The prophets in the Bible would have had major consequences for that. We take the words of God too lightly and don’t seek The Word of God enough. He speaks and we all have the ability to hear from Him. We don’t need to seek the word of the prophet when we can seek God Himself and the Bible for ourselves. There are absolutely true prophets and those who God will use to prophesy to a individual or the church, as He chooses, which could be a one time deal. When we gain confidence and pride because of it, as if we leveled up in our Christianity, rewarded with the label of prophet, then it has become all about us and less about Him. He is Sovereign. I can’t and won’t even attempt to touch His glory or take credit for what He’s doing or saying. If I do, when I’m wrong, I also have to take the blame. The prophets are saying, it’s not over. They say, this happened to expose evil within the system. For their sake, I hope they’re right. I am concerned that there will be exposure but not within the system they think. I believe God is more concerned about getting His Kingdom in order, rather than one country’s government.
His will be done. We must seek Him first. God bless and encourage you. Continue to fight the good fight. You’re doing the right thing. It’s humbling, brave, and completely reliant on our Source, Jesus Christ and the Word.

  9. I have seen, in myself and others, the tendency to use the Prophetic to get all their info about God from a man-(easy way out)-instead of the other way around: Get a Word from your Father God through a solid relationship with Him and then use the Word (Bible) to support my hearing was correct or not-. This is the way I first learned to “hear” the voice of God and TRY THE SPIRITS to see if they be OF GOD. He told me to stop getting my primary info from men and then checking with Him second. This “error” that you pointed out has lead to many problems and I feel God is using the trials and tribulations we are facing to “shake and sift” every believer to see whose word they really believe above all others.

  10. Love it!

Let the words of men fall to the ground!

Let the people seek the word of God again.

When you have intimacy with Him through the word, what does the government’s, the leaders even the difficult things of revelation matter!

Look at the fear that can come from those prophetic words!

A fear that takes you eyes off Christ!

Do we really need any other words other than God’s?

As far as the future events are concerned for me personally. I go to the last book and the last page and say “Come Jesus Come” and that is enough for me! 🙂
