When God Has Not Sent Them
I did not send the prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in my council, then they would have proclaimed my words to my people, and they would have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their deeds. Jeremiah 23:21,22
The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Revelation 19:10
Pandemic prophecies with erroneous time stamps, double-minded declarations and cryptic words regarding international leaders have been swirling and circulating over the past weeks and months from ministry leaders both well known and rising in the ranks. There has been no shortage of decrees implying “peace, peace” or prophetic doublespeak and yet there seems to be a shortage of accountability when these words have fallen to the ground. Dates have come and gone with inaccuracy. Prophetic decrees are worded in such a way that if something were to take place surrounding an individual or event, the allusion is offered that the prophecy was accurate. To what end, I respectfully ask?
A pass is given due to a massive following or personal allegiance to said minister when the word does not come to pass, and if you dare to question the validity of a word, be prepared to receive the “P” badge for Pharisee and to be identified as “void of the Spirit”. If this time of a pandemic and chaos has revealed anything, it is this: there is a major problem in the church with regards to prophecy, testing prophecy and recognizing the truth. There is a problem when prophecies are defended while Scripture is denigrated. There is a problem when men and women appear to be drawing people unto themselves rather than to Christ. This is said with humility and reverence for God. We are listening to many fallible voices right now when we need to return back to the infallible and the sufficiency of Scripture as our compass for proper conduct and instruction.
In Jeremiah 23, we read some sobering passages regarding some professing prophets of that time. They are referred to as lying prophets by God no less. We know these today as false prophets. The Lord says of them in Jeremiah 23 that the people of Israel are not to listen to them as they talk of vain hopes and visions of their own minds. They prophesy smooth things with favorable words and they do not speak of repentance. They talk of dreams they have had and by these dreams, they cause the people to forget God. They are thieves of words and they lead people astray by these things. God makes it plain that He did not send them. This passage, though in a different time and to a different group of people, is chilling to say the least. These prophets dared to speak for God and yet they were not sent. Jeremiah 5 even tells of these prophets and the priests who did as they pleased and how the people loved it so. I would submit to you that Scripture tells of history repeating itself, and it is happening now as it did then and in the time of Christ.
While reading Matthew 5 and 6, Jesus speaks of the beatitudes, conduct under a new covenant regarding lust, divorce, anger prayer, fasting, giving and eternal treasure. In chapter 7, He speaks of judging others, asking and seeking God and how to treat others. There is an interesting sandwich of passages to follow, first with a brief mention of the way to eternal life through the narrow gate that is difficult and that few find in contrast to the wide gate of destruction that is well populated and easy. Immediately after this, Jesus gives a warning to beware of false prophets, ravenous wolves to look like sheep. They are trees bearing fruit not of His Kingdom and believers would know them by their fruits because they would be cut down. How would we know this? We would know by the verses to follow, the other side of the sandwich, stating that though they use the right verbiage of “Lord, Lord”, He would deny knowing them though they prophesied, cast out demons and did great works all in His name. They will be told to depart from Him on that day. (Matthew 7:15-23)
I write this with an urgency to those who will hear and will test everything against Scripture, and I urge you to pay attention to whom you are following in ministry. False prophets will lead many through the wide gate. It is easy and well populated. It is paved with smooth words, talk of favor and twisted Scripture. Accuracy means nothing to the current prophetic movement. There is deception being perpetuated that inaccuracy is acceptable and that you have to step out for God in order to know if you “miss it”. This is not supported in Scripture. The prophets in the Bible who spoke for God did not miss it. To say such a thing while saying, “Thus sayeth the Lord” makes God a liar and the Holy Spirit schizophrenic. This is why we need the sufficiency of Scripture.
Furthermore, accuracy is not a sign of a true prophet. An individual can be quite accurate and yet they are not pointing you to Jesus Christ. (Deuteronomy 13:1-4) If someone has to remind you of their accuracy, then that individual is drawing people to self rather than to Christ. Revelation 19:10 is a misinterpreted and dare I say abused Scripture in some circles. The testimony of Jesus, that of the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament preaching, is the spirit of prophecy. It is neither a slogan nor a catchphrase to say vague words of prosperity and spiritual regurgitation that seem to come back around in the same verbiage but from different individuals. It is not a verse to quote to pander extrabiblical teaching to the masses and draw men and women unto a ministry brand. When Christ crucified is preached, the testimony of the Son of God taking the wrath of God upon Himself for our sins and reconciling us back to the Father by grace through faith in Christ, then we witness the spirit of prophecy in action.
Stay alert! Now more than ever, we are in a time when the church needs to wake up and to not be afraid to judge righteously within the church and to discern the true from the false. True God fearing leaders will not shy away from their words and teachings being inspected to see if what they say is so and in accordance with Scripture, and if they do, run. God did not send them. Ears are being scratched in this time, and it is time for God’s sheep to wake up and to stop leaning in for another scratch. Come out from among them.

Yes and Amen! Thank you.
Dear Dawn, I consider much of what you say to be reasonable, so would like to humbly point out an inconsistency that I’ve noticed a lot both in popular culture & the body of Christ. That is, the erroneous use of the word “schizophrenic”. eg: “To say such a thing while saying, ‘Thus sayeth the Lord’ makes God a liar and the Holy Spirit schizophrenic.” It is not only erroneous, but also hurtful to those with schizophrenia. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to explore this further. Thank you!
Wholeheartedly agree with you and have spoken and written similar. Don’t be concerned with disparaging remarks. Speak truth, His truth, not what people seem to follow after. Blessings
Amen and amen, bless you warrior sister with your respectful but bold witness! I literally saw your e-mail after the Spirit of the Lord has been speaking to me literally this afternoon about these same things. Last night I saw 20 examples of this type of thing, when taking a look at someone a friend of mine is following or connecting with. Several people I know RIGHT NOW (who have loved God and been in the “fear of the Lord”) are falling to snares of error and deception! These are close siblings who I care greatly about, it’s heartbreaking! Acceleration of the scriptures you shared are at hand, along with God’s exposure to those who seek to humble themselves and have ears to hear! God WILL judge and the hammer is coming soon. To His remnant, fear not and look up, God is getting ready to do something huge for us as well, hang on it’s getting ready to get exciting! Keep loving and interceding, and refuse to compromise! Unplug from mixture, seek Him one on One, His word ALONE (from front to back) and the Comforter will lead you and you are Hidden in Him!
I have to say first of all , THANK You for speaking Truth that Honors Gods Written word .

I had some similar thoughts along these lines earlier today and recently. The term, “loose canons” comes to mind. Thanks for taking the time to write.
Correct spelling….”loose cannons” ☺️
Thank you. You’ve written well and clearly. Your words encourage me to keep reading the Lord’s word to know His truth so that I will recognise falsehood when I see and hear it. Bless you in Jesus’ name.
Thank you Dawn for your poignant and direct teaching. As a pastor who constantly asks the Lord for clarity in my hearing and for the fear of the Lord in my walk, I’m bothered by the many cryptic prophecies that get published, that if it doesnt come to pass, then they can cover their tracks by saying the people of God must have prayed it away. Therefore either what they ‘prophesy’ comes to pass, though oftentimes its very vague, or if it dont in the time table they gave, they have an out. The time setting for the end of the pandemic by very well known ‘prophets’ that did not come to pass was also never addressed, even by the Christian media that gave them a voice. This has caused me to lose respect for them. Thank you for being a voice of spiritual reason during a time in the church when anything goes without any accountability. God bless you!
This pandemic has highlighted the arrogance, disobedience, ignorance and greed in this country. No one is speaking about repentance. It’s a shame that the new social media movement has become prophecies. I am a watchman on the wall and I can remember when authors and writers were the “IN” thing. Life coaches and motivational speakers followed, then social media influencers, now it’s prophets. There is such a high penalty for such an act. Unfortunately, false prophets is a biblical sign of the end times so it is too be expected. However, I agree and I pray that the church does wake up sooner than later. They are still asleep and I’m concerned that it will take something bigger than a pandemic to wake them out of their slumber.
This is my heart’s cry Dawn. Thank you for the courage to speak the truth in love. The ‘prophetic movement’ is in a precarious place. The Body must come to this realization and esp. those in the ‘prophetic.’ God give them eyes to see and ears to hear, and grace to repent.
Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!
Thank you Dawn for a much needed word. I can recall more than a few prophetic words that are proving themselves false concerning this virus.
I’m going to have to disagree. I have listened many Sundays now, online. Hoping to hear a change in the shepherds/pastors and their messages. Their messages have been very much the same at a time when the sheep need scriptural guidance and direction. It’s not there. Words largely concerning how to deal with fear and “please don’t stop giving.“
We are in a crucial hour in the body of Christ. The Lord left in place apostles prophets pastors evangelist and teachers. Not just one role, pastor. The voices of the pastors have had nothing to say of substance to lead the sheep in this hour. It’s just church as usual, just online. It is important to hear the prophets. We the sheep know how to discern between a word that is from God or not from God because we have the Holy Spirit. Let’s give sheep some credit here. As well as giving the Lord himself some credit for having sent us the Holy Spirit at Pentecost 2000 years ago. Let’s be like the sons of Issachar/Bereans and discern the times. It is no longer business as usual in this United States nor in the world regarding the body of Christ. This is a huge reset and recalibration of how we’ve been doing business. The prophetic voices I have listened to have been right on. Be careful to not lump all things in one category, as you have great responsibility in this format/pulpit.
Please, which ones are you listening to?
Jeremiah Johnson
i would have to agree with Sheri. I was thinkin bout it just this morning in fact. I like the way the prophetic seems to work….God doesnt give the whole picture to jus 1 certain individual, but rather a peice of the whole to lots. that way by listening to lots….u can get a general tenor of whats bein said prophetically, and can extrapalate to get a clearer picture of the whole….actually thats probly what Paul was talkin bout when sayin we all know ‘in part’….that wayn we dont havta pic 1 guy an say ok …now this is the deal…an get all wanked out….actually its a brilliant system im thinkin…!
Thanks for your comment, Sheri. The call for discernment is not lumping everyone into one category. Scripture gives us instruction to discern false teachers and false prophets from those who are preaching the truth according to Scripture. I wpuld say again that accuracy is not the sign of a prophet, as seen in Deuteronimy 13. I have heard many prophetic words released during the past several months, including dates and such. They were wrong. I have heard some of the ministers declare judgment on this pandemic and attempt to blow it away. They were wrong. These things need to be addressed. None of us are infallible, but the Word of God is. I say this not to condemn, but for those of us as professing Christians, myself included to come back to the truth and to test everything as we are instructed in 1 Thessalonians 5. Romans 16:17-18 gives strong instruction about avoiding false teachers. 1 John 4 gives strong instruction on discerning false prophets. The list goes on. I appreciate you sharing and what you have observed. The things I have observed have troubled me because people are being led astray whether they realize it or not. That is my concern. God bless.
Thank you Dawn. So well said, expressing my heart with ‘prophetic precision,’ a true prophet, courageously addressing ‘prophetic’ issues, seriously escalating to threatening levels. Lord deliver a remnant from an ever increasing apostate church, causing Your truth to go forth, prevailing over and dismantling deceptions.
Yes and Amen, Dawn! Few realize that these are truly the last of the last days and DECEPTION WILL INCREASE AND THREATEN EVERY HEART THAT IS NOT FULLY HIS! Look at all the verses in the New Testament alone that are warnings about FALSE TEACHERS AND FALSE PROPHETS. It’s VERY SERIOUS! And sad to say, not all of us in the Body know didly squat about discernment. God is judging America and the Church first. If we were so discerning, then why hasn’t it changed the nation? If were so discerning then WHY O WHY do so many trust in a natural president to save them now?!
